The year is 2009 and the scars left by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and his followers have begun to heal in the wizarding world. A cautious hope for a brighter future grows stronger with each passing day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the epicentre of the horrifying last battle between good and evil. End of Term Posted by Silvanus Bevan on 6/30 23:32:23 (1 Comments)

Okay, you lot. It's that time of year again, yes, the end of term. That should make you happy, I know it makes me happy. Just as we do every term, you can now start applying to year up. The applications for it are found here. However, I recommend you wait for the announcement of the house cup before applying for a year up (in the case you still have homework yet to be marked).
Also, with the start of the holidays means that Platform 9 and 3/4 is now open for you lot to role play in. This forum will stay open until two weeks into the next term so have fun role playing your trip home. Please remember that even though there are no classes during the break, it doesn't mean that you can not role play in other places. Hogwarts is still open for you to play in.
Voting time is also here again. Please follow this link to vote for those who you think deserve the award. The winners for these trophies will be announced in the new term along with those that won a departmental award for excellence.
Staff will be announcing which house gets the House Cup in a couple of days. The classes have officially be closed but the Professors are still grading any homework that was handed in on the last day. The points will be added after this late homework is marked and then we will announce the House Cup winners for this term.
Lastly, as you all know we have lost a few staff members this term and will be looking for replacements for them. The application for Professors can be found here. The positions in question are Defence Against the Dark Arts, Care of Magical Creatures, Astronomy and Ancient Runes. Anyone can apply for these positions, so give it a go. Just remember you have to work for me though. Fun, fun.
Have a good break, children and please remember to vote. I, as I am sure that most of the staff would, wish all those applying for a year up and for a position the very best of luck.

The time as come once more to name the top RPers of the month. As always, it is always a tough choice because there are so many threads to choose from and so many of them to be great reads and full of entertainment. But first we will start with the one for May since that month as come and gone without anyone noticing it.
The month of May as moved me since something was in the air. It was the month were love seemed to rule even if it was not Valentine's Day. I blame it on the spring air. That being said the RP of the month is: Are you Gonna be my Girl? for May by Olivia Diggory and Dominck Prince
For the month of June, I needed some cheering me up for it was not a very good month fo me. The one I chose brought a smile to my face when I needed it and I still find it entertaining even with the month ending on a very good note. The RP of the month is: Pangs of Hunger
Sydney Hawthorne and Simon Darkclaw.
Congratualtions for all of your hard work and I cannot wait to see what this next month will bring

Your report card has been updated with the correct percentage out of the maximum amount of points you can earn this term from classes. We apologize for not being able to give you sooner warning and please take a look at your new percentage because the number may be different from what you were expecting. Also, you have a few days left to bring that number up.
As a reminder, you need to have a minimum of 15-20% to go up one year and a minimum of 80% to be considered for going up two years.
Good luck!

Warlock & Goblin Stock Exchange Goes Bankrupt Posted by Simon Sottile on 6/14 1:22:04 (15 Comments)

| |
During the early hours of June 13th, the International Wizarding Stock Market, the Warlock & Goblin Stock Exchange, announced that they will be closing down due to financial difficulties. This has caused an outrage from the wizarding community as stock holders rushed to sell their portfolios. As a result, all of the stocks underwent an enormous crash, something that will take the wizarding world a few years to shake off. The WGSH gave stock holders a week to conduct any business they have with the stock market (ie: sell their stock). On the 20th of June, the exchange will be closing their doors.

Hogsmeade Trip Posted by Simon Sottile on 6/10 1:05:26 (0 Comments)

Apologies for this being late, but as you probably are aware, some strange things are happening throughout the Wizarding World. We had to take several extra steps of precaution to ensure that the students who visit Hogsmeade are safe from any impending threats. It is all set up now, and this means the beginning of the Hogsmeade trip. The trip will still be ending on the original designated date (June 13th).
Have fun and stay safe.

New Minister of Magic Appointed Posted by Simon Sottile on 5/24 17:40:16 (8 Comments)

At a surprise press conference last night in London, the Wizengamot announced the appointment of a new Minister for Magic, Alexander DeSousa. After a long period of silence regarding the disappearance of Edward Stevens, the Ministry came out and publicly declared the unanimous appointment at the small gathering outside Ministry headquarters at approximately half past nine last night.
Alexander DeSousa comes from an impressive magical career, having been Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1997 to 2004. After his resignation from the top post at Hogwarts, DeSousa took a trip abroad to help reestablish Saint Andrews Academy of Magic in Boston, Massachusetts. The renovation and reintroduction of the troubled academy was the biggest project on the American East coast since the introduction of Quidditch in the early 2000’s to replace the dangerous American broomsport Quadpot.
“At the close of this decade, the magical community finds itself at a crossroads. We are currently wandering down a dead end path of comfort in the familiar. As Minister for Magic I plan to find the perfect balance between innovation and progress and respect for our traditions and magical culture.” DeSousa commented at the nighttime press conference.
He continued on to an appreciative, though admittedly apprehensive crowd, “The Ministry will be reborn. We will take the finest aspects of the proven institution that the Ministry used to be and weed out the corruption that lead to such catastrophes as the appointment of Elizabeth Reynolds. We will replace the problems with innovative and new ideas that will take the magical community to a new level for the new decade and continue on as a foundation for the infant century.”
When asked for specific details about his platforms and plans for the ministry, DeSousa declined the opportunity to divulge such information. He is expected to release an informative timeline regarding the status of the Ministry somewhere in the near future.

Scripting Department Applications Now Open Posted by Simon Sottile on 5/23 5:55:30 (0 Comments)

Lumos Alliance is one of the web’s largest online Harry Potter role-playing sites. However, unlike the ‘theme’ of the place, the maintenance here is not magical. It takes the dedication of our tech team, both the image designers and the scripter’s to keep this place running. Whenever you see new features or items being introduced, it is these people are behind them .Nonetheless, Lumos Alliance is growing, with many new members joining on a weekly basis, the demand on the technological aspect of the site grows as well. We need more talented people who can do these sorts of jobs to join the amazing team we have so far. I’m not going to steal Professor Deveraux thunder for the graphics department, so I’ll leave the image ‘application’ speech to her. Being head of the scripting department, it is my task to make sure all the pages on LA are running smoothly and that bugs get sorted. And once in a while, I get the time to script a new feature which is then released to the public. The problem is, there is just so much time I can spend on working on LA’s scripts. With other obligations, problems on the scripting side get pushed back. This leads to the reasoning behind this post. The scripting department needs more helping hands who can write code, debug, and be a good team player. If you think you have the potential, click here for more information.

Finally, after months and months of waiting, I now am proud to announce that the Special Powers have now arrived at Hogwarts. These Powers range from Animagus to Vampires to Parseltongue and many others. For those of you interested, please do read the Disclaimer, Rules and Question thread before you decide what you want and especially before you apply. There is a one power/person quota and not many places open.
Application will be open until the end of the Term Break, which is the 31st of July (11:59 LA time) , to come up with a decision and submit your application. That should give you all enough time to come up with something extraordinary to impress me with. Good Luck to all of you who try out.
